SweetNight CoolNest Mattress Review – Only $599 for 16” Queen?

sweetnight coolnest mattress

I’ve always loved great deals and looked for ways to get the most out of every cent spent, so, when I heard that SweetNight launched a new foam mattress that costs only $599 for the 16” queen, I had to take a closer look. One thing led to another, and I ended up writing this SweetNight CoolNest mattress review.

What’s the fuss? First of all, 16” mattresses are not that common. Most brands offer 10”, 12”, and 14”. Then, $599 for a 16” queen mattress is insane, a real bargain. So the only question remaining to be answered is: does SweetNight really offer an amazing deal, or is this mattress too good to be true, low-quality, waste of your money? Let’s take a closer look:

SweetNight Brand Review

SweetNight has been on the U.S. market for over a decade. They’re present in 130 countries and have served over 100 million customers, having raving customer reviews on most platforms. Their Prime, Starry Night, and Twilight mattresses are quite popular and have built the brand’s fame for offering the best value for the money and some of the best mattresses under $500.

SweetNight CoolNest Mattress Review

The CoolNest™ mattress is a new addition to the SweetNight lineup and comes with some pretty bold claims:

  • Feels up to 8° cooler
  • Relieves pressure points through a 5-zone support system
  • Dissipates heat and offers responsive comfort
  • Resists deformation, allowing for long-term durability

In order to assess if this new mattress comes anywhere close to meeting these claims, it’s important to look at its design and structure.

CoolNest™ Mattress Design and Presentation

This is an all-foam mattress. Its cover is removable, washable, an elegant combination of grey and navy, with the brand and product names in white. Three thickness options are available: 12”, 14”, and 16”. Most mattress brands provide 12” and 14” options, with 16” being the equivalent of luxury and ultimate comfort. Anything thicker than 16” is already an exaggeration or marketing gimmick. This is the first SweetNight mattress available in 16” thickness. The available sizes are Full, Queen, King, and California King.

Shipping and Unboxing

Each mattress is delivered rolled and compressed in a box. Depending on size and thickness, it can weigh between 59.5 lbs and 109.5 lbs, so it’s best to have help for carrying up the stairs and unboxing it. The CoolNest™ mattress should be compatible with most types of bedframes, from platform beds to adjustable frames and even Murphy beds if you choose the 12” version. While it doesn’t gas off like other foam mattresses, it’s best to give it at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated room to inflate and air out.

CoolNest™ Mattress Firmness

With a medium firm general rating, the 12” version should feel a bit firmer and more suitable for back and stomach sleepers. The 16” version will feel slightly softer and better suited for side and combination sleepers. Unfortunately, those who prefer very soft or firm mattresses and hybrid mattress fans won’t find what they’re looking for in the CoolNest™.

Materials, Layers, and Structure

The materials in the CoolNest’s composition, as those in all their products, are certified as safe: CertiPUR-US foams and Oeko-TEX fabric. The SweetNight website counts 6 layers, including the cover, as follows:

  1. CoolNest™ Cover, made from 3D-weaved fabric with 10,000 micro-vents – Honestly, I don’t know what makes 3D weaving so special and I haven’t counted the micro-vents. However, these features supposedly increase airflow by 35%. While I haven’t measured the increase, the cover feels soft, pleasant, and especially cool to touch. The relief patterns give it some adherence, keeping the bedding in place. If you’re as clumsy as I am, you should be thrilled to learn that the fabric doesn’t retain moisture. On the contrary, it tends to dry really fast.
  2. PCMflux™ Foam – It’s a high-resilience foam with a hollow structure, infused with PCM particles. The company says it’s 3x more breathable than regular foam. I haven’t and have no way to measure breathability, but the mattress box I received included a heart-shaped foam sample that felt very soft and airy, and the mattress overall does feel cool and breathable.
  3. Cooling Gel Foam – Already a constant presence in the structure of many mattresses, this gel-infused foam increases the cooling sensation and adds to the responsiveness of the mattress.
  4. Ocean Memory Foam – Also called responsive support foam, this layer allows the mattress to contour to the body and support the joints, relieving pressure.
  5. Transition Comfort Foam – This layer allows the mattress to resist deformation and sagging, adding to its durability and lifespan.
  6. Zoned Support Layer – This support foam layer is enhanced with comfort bars, 9 in total. Its role is to provide targeted support to key areas, like the neck, lower back, and knees, and relieve pressure in the shoulder and hip areas. Due to it, the mattress should do a good job at keeping your spine aligned and protecting you from back, shoulder, and hip pain.

SweetNight CoolNest™ Mattress Trial

All SweetNight mattresses come with a 100-night trial. What does this mean for you? You have three months to sleep on your new mattress and decide if it’s the right product for you. In case you don’t like it or don’t find it comfortable enough, you can return it and ask for a refund. More details on the process at https://www.sweetnight.com/pages/return-policy.

Where does the 100-night trial stand compared to other brands? It’s in line with the free trial period provided by Zinus, Helix, and many other brands. However, there are also brands like Nectar Sleep, Saatva, and Origin, which provide longer, 1-year trial periods.

Honestly, I think the extended trial periods are more of a marketing gimmick. You don’t need a year to assess if you like a mattress and if it’s comfortable enough. Three months are enough to test and allow your body to adjust to the new sleep conditions.

Of course, the longer the trial period, the more confident you can be regarding the quality of the mattress. However, longer trial periods are often associated with higher price tags. If you’re on a tight budget, the trial period shouldn’t be a concern. Just do your due diligence, take your needs and preferences into account, and choose a mattress likely to meet them. Pay attention to your sleep experience during the first 2-3 months, and, if you don’t like it, ask for a refund in due time.

Statistics show that most refund requests come within the first 90 days from the acquisition. Brands also count on buyers getting used to the new mattress and putting up with small inconveniences to avoid the hassle of returning the mattress and setting up a new one. Some brands have much higher profit margins and can afford to put up with return risks. Others, like SweetNight, don’t, and this is clear in their prices.

10-Year Limited Warranty

The average lifespan of a mattress ranges between 7 and 10 years. SweetNight backs theirs with a 10-year warranty, and that should settle any concerns. To make sure you benefit from the warranty, register it at https://www.sweetnight.com/pages/warranty when you receive it. What does the warranty really offer? Just peace of mind regarding manufacturing defects and abnormal wear and tear despite normal use!

In other words, if the stitching gives in, the cover desintegrates, or the mattress sags considerably, you could get a replacement, a total or partial refund, a topper to upgrade it, etc. That won’t happen if you accidentally damage the mattress yourself, use it on box spring, on an uneven surface, or directly on the floor without protection, store it in a humid place, etc. To ensure you won’t need to file a warranty claim, it helps to use a good mattress protector.

SweetNight CoolNest™ Mattress Price

As I’ve shared before, one of the reasons I love this brand is its incredibly affordable price range. The 12” queen size costs only $429.99. A 14” queen sells for only $499. My personal favorite, the 16” queen, sells for $599. You simply won’t find a mattress with these specs and this incredible price point anywhere else.

Who cares if it doesn’t last a lifetime, like some competing brands claim? I’m not saying it won’t, it’s just the excuse more expensive brands use for their steep price tag – you pay for quality. Even if that were to hold true, at this price, you’re better off replacing it every 5 years than buying a mattress that can last 10-20 years. You can replace all the mattresses in your home at the price of one mattress from other brands.

Besides, hoping to keep a mattress for 10-20 years and sleep comfortably on it is unrealistic, no matter how good that mattress is. Your body and your needs change with time: moving or upgrading your home, weight loss or weight gain, pregnancy, sleep position changes, health condition changes, etc. And don’t even get me started on germs, dust, mold, and mildew!

Cons & Weaknesses

  • No twin XL and split king sizes available

  • Edge support and bounce could be better, not that great for sex.

SweetNight CoolNest™ Mattress Reviews

There aren’t many other online reviews to look at yet but the ones available look promising. Naplab rates the CoolNest at 8.37/10 and praises motion transfer and response time. HouseDigest focuses on the cooling features and excellent price. Sleepline appreciated motion isolation and cooling properties, classifying it as probably the coolest sleeping similarly-priced all-foam mattress and one of the best cooling all-foam mattresses under $1000. Yes, they all have their concerns regarding edge support, suitability for sex, and long-term durability. These are all valid concerns but not just with the CoolNest mattress, with all mattresses in this price range.

Will you be able to find better mattresses out there? Absolutely! However, for their price, you can buy 2, 3, or even 10 CoolNest mattresses. So, the question here is: where do you stand? If you need an excellent mattress and don’t mind spending a few thousand dollars to get it, it’s worth looking at more products before you make a decision. However, if you’re on a tight budget ($500-$600) and would like the best cooling and comfort available at that value, this mattress won’t disappoint.
