About Origin Mattress
Origin is a global brand, present in multiple countries in Europe, U.K., U.S., Australia, and Asia as well. They have quite a few awards and excellent third-party reviews and endorsements. I actually reviewed their other mattress, the Origin Adapt Hybrid, a couple of months ago.
Why them and not the larger brands you see advertised everywhere? In my experience, large advertising budgets come at a cost – inflated product prices. But no-name brands are risky as well, since you have no guarantee that the claims on their websites come anywhere close to reality or that you’ll get a replacement or your money back if the mattress is uncomfortable or breaks down after a few months or years of use.
So I try to stay somewhere in the middle. I choose brands that have a good reputation and have been in the market long enough to hope they’ll stay, but run away from very expensive products and aggressive marketing campaigns. That’s where Origin mattress comes in. And since the Adapt made a good impression, I was curious to see what its more expensive alternative has to offer.
Origin LumbarCloud Mattress Overview
The LumbarCloud is a luxurious 14” hybrid built with chronic back pain sleepers in mind. It has an elegant white and navy 9-layer design that includes a very attractive handcrafted cashmere pillow top. It embeds several patented materials and technologies that make it a very attractive deal for its price tag – the mattress is currently on sale for $1259/12” queen, with the 55% discount already applied. It’s also delivered with 2 CoolMax pillows.
Speaking of delivery, shipping normally takes 1-2 days but, given occasional provider delays, it doesn’t hurt to plan for a 1-week delivery, especially if you live in remote areas. The queen size weighs 113.2 lbs, similar to other beds in a box, but still enough to become a challenge for one person, so arrange to have help. Both shipping and returns are free, and you have an impressive 1-year trial period and a lifetime warranty.
It seems to be an upgraded version of the Origin Hybrid Pro, selling in the United Kingdom. I love the fact that it’s built in the U.S., especially knowing that Europeans sleep on thinner mattresses and have slightly different needs and priorities. Another thing that drew my attention is the presence of two coil systems – most mattresses only have one. Then, instead of the usual 3-5 layers, this model embeds no less than 9, each with a specific role. We will review them all in the following lines.
Origin LumbarCloud Layers
Here is an overview of the layers making up Origin’s higher-end bed:
- CashmereCloud™ Pillowtop – Handcrafted from a rare cashmere blend, it creates a soft and breathable sleep surface perfect for relieving pressure points.
- LumbarSupport™ Memory Foam – This high-density memory foam layer is zoned to support the lower back, relieve pressure, and correct posture.
- AlpacaWool+ Comfort Layer – The combination of alpaca wool and fleece aims to control temperature and improve comfort, support, and breathability.
- Antigravity Gel™ – A super-elastic gel layer meant to reverse the effects of gravity and improve cooling by adjusting to the sleeper’s body to relieve pressure and enhance airflow.
- DeepRelief+™ memory foam – This 3-zone memory foam layer helps keep the spine aligned and supported, while reducing hip, shoulder, and leg pressure.
- ErgoCoil™ microsprings – A system of ~1000 ultra-responsive, twice-tempered microsprings that ensure targeted support while improving air flow and motion isolation.
- ThermaGraph™ foam layer – The graphite-infused foam dissipates heat, improving overall cooling and contributing to a better sleep experience overall.
- 7-Zone TitaniumCoils™ system – Up to 2040 individually-wrapped coils made of twice-tempered titanium provide targeted support, improve airflow, and isolate motion.
- StabilityCore™ base foam – This high-density foam layer acts as a foundation and adds stability and durability to the mattress overall.
Origin LumbarCloud Mattress Firmness and Sleep Positions
The manufacturer rates the bed as 6.5 out of 10, in line with our findings. This makes it perfect for most sleep positions, especially back and stomach sleepers and combination sleepers. Usually, side sleepers need a softer mattress. However, the advanced pressure relief and the cashmere pillowtop make the LumbarCloud bed comfortable for most side sleepers. The only categories that may not benefit from sleeping on this bed are sleepers with more extreme preferences or specific medical conditions, requiring a very firm or very soft mattress.
Performance
Cooling
From the breathable cashmere pillow top to the alpaca wool, gel matrix, graphite foam, and dual-coil system, this Origin mattress seems to be built to facilitate cooling and improve airflow. It’s difficult to measure if it actually sleeps 15 degrees cooler than standard memory foam, since even the cheaper memory foam mattress models embed some cooling features (I haven’t tried any models without), but you surely won’t sweat or overheat on it. Due to my thyroid and weight issues, I tend to sweat easily and can’t bear synthetic materials, but this mattress felt cool and breathable even during the hotter summer nights.
Back Pain
The Origin LumbarCloud is one of the best mattresses for back pain I’ve tested. It’s supportive, keeps the spine aligned, and relieves pressure in the right areas. On it, you won’t wake up stiff, in pain, or with sore hips or shoulders. However, it’s important to remember that the mattress is just one factor influencing sleep comfort. The pillow is the other one, and you shouldn’t neglect it. If your pillow is too low or too high, you may wake up with neck and shoulder pain even on the most comfortable mattress. Our guide on bolster pillows and how to choose pillows for your bedroom should help.
Edge Support
One thing that worried me when I first checked this Origin mattress was the lack of perimeter reinforcement. Given its 9-layer design, I was expecting subpar edge support. However, be it from how the layers are combined, the gel matrix, microcoil systems, or reinforced side stitches, edge support is more than decent. It may have become an issue in a 16-inch mattress model, but you have nothing to worry about with how things are.
Sex
Just the fact that it relieves back pain makes this mattress good for sex, right? Those who’ve fought back pain know what I mean, but there’s more to it. Bounce and response matter for such activities, as they diminish the need for effort from the partners and make it easier for them to sync. The Origin LumbarCloud isn’t the bounciest mattress I’ve tested but it doesn’t make you feel trapped and doesn’t prevent movement either. Bounce usually comes at a cost (lower motion isolation), so you need to understand your priorities. Given its cooling and edge support performance, I’d say you won’t have any reason to complain while using it.
Motion Isolation
Due to its microcoil systems, this mattress tends to isolate motion better than many hybrid mattresses. It makes co-sleeping a breeze, reducing the risk for partners to wake up one another, be it due to frequent bathroom visits or tossing and turning. The best part is that, unlike an all-foam memory mattress that may provide better motion isolation, this one won’t make you feel trapped. You’ll have an easier time changing positions and getting in and out of bed.
Noise
Silent mattresses are always preferred to their noisier, squeakier counterparts. Whether it’s the dance with no pants or someone tossing and turning or getting up, the last thing you need is a noisy mattress waking you or the others up. The LumbarCloud won’t. It doesn’t squeak and shake like a regular innerspring mattress would, and there’s no foam swishing either. But do remember that, more often than not, especially with thicker and heavier mattresses, the noise is caused by frail bed frames. Origin has some great adjustable beds, but if you don’t mind sacrificing mobility for foolproof support, check out the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed!
Origin LumberCloud Mattress Reviews
Origin’s higher-end bed is not as popular as it’s more affordable alternative, the Origin Adapt Hybrid. However, in the rather short time since its release on the U.S. market, it gathered some impressive reviews from the likes of Tom’s Guide, Sleepline, Dr. Ken Best, and many others. And if the available U.S. reviews are not enough to convince you, the overwhelming amount of feedback from AU and UK shoppers and reviewers certainly will.

Conclusions: Who Will Benefit from the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress?
As mentioned above, this bed should suit most sleepers’ needs. I think it would be an excellent choice for back and stomach sleepers, especially seniors and pregnant women, and lighter side sleepers. Then, although it’s not necessarily marketed as such, I think active couples with similar sleep positions and firmness preferences will appreciate it as well.
All in all, this mattress provides excellent value for the money and makes a great addition to any bedroom, especially when paired with other Origin products, like the CoolMax pillow, the adjustable beds, or the sheets and mattress protector.
