Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed – AU and US First Indestructible Bed?

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed

One thing my husband and I were set on getting for the new home we’re remodeling, is a bed that can support us well. We both weigh over 220 lbs and are tired of shaking and squeaking beds, not to mention sagging. We tried a custom-built bed for our apartment at one point but the added strength and support came at a cost: limited airflow and mattress mold. Well, we’ve just found what I think is the sturdiest and most supportive bed on the market: Sleeping Duck’s Indestruct Bed. Why did we choose it? Does it live up to the hype? Keep reading to find out!

About Sleeping Duck

The company was founded in 2014, in Australia, by two engineers: Winston Wijeyeratne and Selvam Sinnappan and only recently expanded to the U.S.. They became famous in July 2017 when they pitched their products at Shark Tank and then turned down the Sharks offer. Since then, they conquered the Australian market with their products, gathering raving reviews and excellent customer feedback. While only the Indestruct Bed is currently available in the U.S., they cover most sleepers’ needs in Australia.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Review

With the Indestruct Bed, Sleeping Duck promises stability, durability, and spine support. They’ve created the ultimate bedroom battle tank – a solid structural steel foundation able to support up to 5000lbs without squeaking and, most importantly, while supporting each sleepers’ spine with C-spine Beams. Add a 100-night satisfaction guarantee and a lifetime warranty and you can begin to understand the whole “indestructible” talk.

Key Differences

The usual bed has your mattress sitting on wooden slats. The slats are necessary to allow for airflow and keep the mattress dry in all seasons. In most cases, they’re also thin and quite flexible. With time, they bend and give in to the weight of the mattress and of the sleepers, especially overweight sleepers. Your mattress bends and sags with them, inevitably ruining your spine support and alignment. You toss and turn, struggle with back and hip pain, and wake up tired. Inevitably, the pain and exhaustion will affect your everyday life, work, and relationships, and work.wo

Most sales specialists will blame it on the mattress. While mattresses play their role in back support and sleep comfort, they’re not all there is to it. Put even the best mattress on the wrong bed, and you’ll end up with the same results.  And it gets even more challenging to get a good night’s sleep when your bed wobbles, moves, and squeaks at your every toss. That’s where the Indestruct Bed comes in, as an indestructible bed for an indestructible spine.

The steel chassis with c-shaped spine beams removes all risks of sagging, squeaking, moving, or wear and tear. It also provide unparalleled spine support. Uniform Distribution Air Support Panels (UDASPs) are screwed on top of the frame to ensure an even surface and optimum airflow for your mattress.

All these weigh a lot, so it makes sense to worry about stability, especially if you’re going for a thicker hybrid or latex mattress. No worries, as the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed sits on six sturdy legs made from S235 solid steel, assembled with M39 Bolts – these are heavy duty joineries. You can even choose between two heights and adjust them as you see fit, to ensure the perfect fit and leveling on any surface. No wonder the bed is unshakeable!

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Unboxing and Assembly

sleeping duck indestruct bed assemblyDepending on the bed model and size you choose, unboxing and assembling the indestruct bed may be a challenge even for two people. The process itself is quite simple, but the California King bed with timber finish and headboard weighs no less than 341 lbs, so it’s definitely not easy to move around. Once you’ve unpacked and sorted out the parts, just read and follow instructions carefully, and you should be good.

One of my favorite parts about this bed assembly is that no special tools, hammers, or screwdrivers are required. The two Allen keys included in the package are all you need. The entire process shouldn’t last more than one hour, depending on how handy you are and what help you have available.

Depending on the model upgrades you’ve chosen he key components of the bed are:

1. Indestruct Steel Core Support System

This is a 100+ lbs solid chassis made of S235 structural grade steel chassis. It has two built-in C-shaped beams from the same material, adding ultimate spine support for each sleeper. Instead of slats, Sleeping Duck uses four UDASP (Uniform Distribution Air Support Panels). They’re made of strategically perforated high-strength 18mm birch veneer with eucalyptus plywood core. Laid horizontally on the steel chassis, they distribute mattress weight and support across the entire bed surface, while ensuring excellent mattress ventilation and preventing mold.

2. Headboard

In the U.S., Sleeping Duck’s Indestruct Bed only comes with two headboard options: fabric and timber. The fabric headboard is made of high-strength eucalyptus plywood padded with upholstered foam. The upholstery fabric is a combination of 60% polyester, 14% viscose, and 26% linen. Three color options are available: Ivory, Stone, and Charcoal. The timber headboard is made of the same strong Eucalyptus plywood but covered in timber veneer. Available finishes are European Oak, European Ash, and American Walnut wood.

Headboard beds also come with L-Spine Tri-Mount Headboard Braces for attaching it. These are made from S235 solid steel and feature tri-lock mounts, so, again, no worries about unwanted moving, shaking, or squeaking.

The side panels are high-strength poplar plywood and match the headboard finishes. The upholstery fabric has a subtle cross-hatched appearance. The timber finishes have a natural grain look and feel.

4. Legs

Each bed comes with 6 standard 5.9” legs made from S235 solid steel and clad. The assembly to the four corners of the chassis and to the middle of the support beams is ensured by six M39 Bolts. If you want more storage space you can choose the taller, 7.9” legs.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Look, Feel, and Fit

In Australia, the Indestruct Bed is available in quite a few models and finishes. Hopefully, more will become available in the U.S. as well. Until then, the existing solutions can still match most needs and preferences. Buyers can choose between the upholstered and timber styles, each with three color/finish options, and customize their bed with a headboard. Since the overall design is pretty straightforward, these choices alone should make the bed easy to integrate into any layout, be it modern, classic, or vintage.

Saying that the bed looks and feels sturdy is an understatement. Think of it as a cornerstone or foundation for your home life. It will likely outlast any furniture piece and withstand any test. If you’re in doubt, take a look at the company’s own tests. They lifted their bed and another regular bed in the air and dropped them. The other bed fell apart, while the Indestruct Bed remained flawless as if nothing had happened.  We are talking about a steel chassis bed with 5000 lbs load-bearing capacity, so you could probably park a small car on it and it would still hold.

Its size and weight make it a tough choice for small spaces, shared spaces, rentals, and anyone looking for quick, lightweight, and cheap solutions. But homeowners tired of cheap replacements and poor back support and Airbnb owners sick of repairing guest damage and receiving complaints will surely love it. For overweight sleepers with back problems like my husband and I, it’s a real godsend.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed and Back Pain

As a back pain sufferer and partner of a veteran with a herniated disk and resulting back pain, back support is crucial to me. I don’t think any other bed in the market could do a better job supporting your back. The C-spine beams supporting each sleeper and the horizontal Uniform Distribution Air Support Panels are unlike anything I’ve ever seen in the U.S. This bed is guaranteed to keep your spine aligned and supported!

However, please keep in mind that the bed is not the only one responsible for your back support and comfort. It’s just part of the team that comprises the mattress as well. I wish Sleeping Duck had their Australian SD Mach II mattress available in the U.S. as that would simplify things a lot.

They don’t, so it’s on you to choose your mattress so as to get the support you need. I recommend a mattress that is 12” or higher. If you sleep on your back and stomach, a firmer mattress should work better for you, as it will keep your spine aligned and not allow your middle section to sink. If you sleep on your side, you need a softer mattress to allow your hips and shoulders to sink and keep your spine aligned.

Any spine misalignments will result in waking up tired, with a stiff and achy back, and possibly with hip and shoulder pain, too. That reminds me of my husband before we upgraded our bed. He was like a grumpy bear every morning, and I couldn’t complain because I felt his pain too.

The good news is that, with the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed being so solid and supportive, you won’t need to spend too much on the mattress, and even a mattress under $500 may do. You’re literally days away from restful sleep and pain-free mornings!

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Pricing

The starting price point for the Indestruct Bed is $899 for the queen size. Further customizations, like headboard, timber finish, and higher legs can increase the price to $1799 for a queen. It may seem expensive when you can find options for less than $500. However, you won’t find this level of quality, support, and durability anywhere else.

Therefore, think of it as a long-term, lifetime investment in your and your partner’s sleep, health, and well-being. Chances are it will outlive you but if you decide to replace it, you should be able to move it to another room or reuse its components. That’s how sturdy and durable it is!

Environment and User Safety Concerns

This bed is safe not just for sleepers but also for the environment. The timber and veneer used for it are obtained from renewable sources, and certified as such by PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). And while further recycling is an option, the bed is built to last at least a lifetime. It’s unlikely that it will end up at the landfill.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Trial

Sleeping Duck backs their bed with a 100-night satisfaction guarantee. In other words, you can sleep on your Indestruct Bed, in the comfort of your home, for up to 100 nights, risk-free. If you don’t like it, you can contact the company to return it and get a full refund of the purchase price. It’s unlikely you’ll have reasons to complain and return it. Just in case, please keep in mind that the guarantee applies only to one bed per household. Therefore, if you need more, consider buying one first, to see how it goes, and only order the rest when you’re sure they’re the right fit for you.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Reviews

I had a hard time finding 3rd party and customer reviews for the Indestruct Bed in the U.S.. However, they’re famous and have an astonishing reputation in Australia, and that should count for something. They have raving reviews on ProductReview.com.au, Reddit, BedBuyer.com.au, News.com.au, and other reputed Australian websites.

Another thing I like about their company is that they didn’t just whitelabel common factory products. The founder, an aerospace engineer, built the bed from scratch, stood by it on TV shows, and grew the company from $0 to #1 on the market. I also love the fact that they didn’t settle with claims of having the sturdiest bed or the best mattress, they actually took steps to prove it.

I saw some crazy, unmatched resilience tests like dropping the bed from a considerable height to show how solid and reliable it is or Lawrence from LaurenceMattressTesting.com going over the Sleeping Duck SD Mach II mattress with a 15t steam roller. I’d buy anything that can resist such tests, and I wish more companies from the U.S. would go to this extent to prove their products’ viability.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Conclusions

I’m pleased to have discovered such a solid and reliable bed on the U.S. market. It’s surely one of my favorite bedroom products and it has made Sleeping Duck one of my favorite sleep brands. It’s a bit outside my usual price range, I’ll admit. However, considering how much money we spend on things we don’t necessarily need, on whims and impulse acquisitions, spending $1000 or even $1500 on a lifetime of good sleep and excellent support seems like a no-brainer. It’s pretty stylish and easy to integrate in any decor as well, so what more can you wish for?
