Origin is not the most famous brand in the U.S. but their Origin Hybrid Pro (LumbarCloud) mattress is currently one of the UK’s most popular online mattresses. The brand itself is quite popular in several countries around the globe. Their Origin Adapt Hybrid, has its share of fame as well. It’s actually the one that got my attention, since I live and breathe for great deals, especially on bedroom products.
This hybrid mattress combines bamboo memory foam, pocketed steel springs, and Origin’s unique Orthopedic HexaGrid support layer. It promises not just responsive support but also claims to aid in spinal alignment. And, best of all, it comes at an affordable price. Let’s take a closer look and see what’s so special about it!
Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress Review
Construction and Materials
This mattress is made up of no less than 7 layers:
- SnowTencel Pillowtop – Enhanced with SmartClimate cooling technology, it’s soft, inviting, and cooling at the same time, giving the mattress a luxury vibe only found in more expensive products.
- Organic wool – It adds cushioning, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties, while also regulating body temperature.
- Bamboo Memory Foam – It’s an open-cell CertiPur-US foam infused with cooling gel to improve cooling and support.
- Orthopedic Hexagrid – A patented blend of cooling gel and polymers, this layer should make the Origin Adapt Hybrid 25% more supportive and 5 degrees cooler than regular foam mattresses.
- Graphite foam – Natural latex foam is infused with graphite crystals for added support, bounce, and cooling.
- 8-zone springs system – It includes over 2040 individually wrapped springs made from tempered (twice) steel springs (most hybrid mattresses have up to 1000 springs), aiming to isolate motion, improve responsiveness, and prevent mattress sagging.
- High-density foam – This layer adds stability and durability to the overall structure.
Origin Adapt Mattress Firmness
While Origin company rates their mattress at 6.5/10, it tends to feel a bit firmer. This makes it perfect for stomach and back sleepers but a bit too firm for most side sleepers, especially overweight ones.
Cooling Properties
This is probably one of the best cooling mattresses in its price range. The SmartClimate cooling cover, bamboo foam, graphite foam, wool, and pocketed coils work together to dissipate heat, regulate body temperature, and improve airflow. You may be able to find other mattresses that sleep as cool or even cooler, but they will surely be more expensive than the Adapt.
Does Origin Adapt Mattress Isolate Motion?
Memory foam mattresses usually do a better job of isolating motion than hybrid mattresses. The rule seems to apply here as well. While I’ve seen worse motion isolation, I’ve also seen better. If you’ve been co-sleeping before and you and your partner are fairly considerate and don’t suffer from insomnia or other sleep disorders, chances are you’ll be happy sleeping on the Adapt mattress. Only very light sleepers with restless partners may have reasons to complain.
Edge Support
This Origin hybrid mattress has one of the best edge support systems I’ve seen. Part of it is due to the coil unit providing edge-to-edge support. The sides are reinforced as well, further improving support and preventing the rollover or fall-off feeling.
Comfort and Pressure Relief
Stomach and back sleepers will love this mattress. It keeps the spine aligned and supports all troublesome areas, relieving pressure. Side sleepers may find it a bit too firm. In time, that could translate to some hip and shoulder pressure buildup.
Origin Adapt Mattress Trial and Warranty
One of the things I love about this mattress is its 1-year trial. I don’t think anyone needs a full year to figure out if a mattress is right for them or not, but companies that provide such long trials inspire confidence in their products.
Then, there’s the lifetime warranty. Chances are your sleep needs and preferences will change in a couple of years. The average mattress lifespan barely exceeds 7 years. But you have to love a brand that stands behind their product for a lifetime.
Sizes Available
The Adapt Hybrid is available in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and Cal king sizes. Its thickness is 12”, which is enough to meet most sleepers’ needs and over some other brands’ mattresses that are only 10” or 11” high.
Pros:
- Excellent support and comfort for back and stomach sleepers
- Great cooling and breathability
- Solid edge support
- Luxurious pillowtop cover
- Good for sex (decent bounce)
- Comes with two free latex pillows
- Long trial and warranty
- Great value for the money
Cons:
- May be too firm for side sleepers
- Motion isolation could be a bit better
Origin Adapt Review of Pricing and Value for the Money
In queen size, this mattress is priced at $1048. However, the company often offers attractive discounts that take the price down to $629. Better yet, shoppers receive two free pillows.
Many companies offer free pillows with their mattresses. However, those are usually cheap, standard pillows rolled within the mattress from the factory. Origin sends their CoolMax Latex pillows, way superior in terms of comfort, support, and cooling.
Will you find 12” mattresses cheaper than the Adapt? Absolutely! However, they won’t come with such an extensive trial and warranty. Then, they won’t be made with premium materials like natural wool and latex, they’ll have cheaper and less supportive spring coil systems, and worse edge support. Overall, the Adapt Hybrid Mattress from Origin provides excellent value for the money.
